Power of Stillness in a FAST Paced World
Want your life to feel less chaotic? Everyone does. People will do anything to feel less stressed, and so we run to prescriptions, alcohol, etc. to fix the problem. The magazines say we won’t be happy until we’re radiantly beautiful on the outside so we give in to the diets, detoxes, supplements, and boot camps in the hopes that if we are outwardly beautiful, or if we can control the way we look, we will be able to control the way we feel inwardly. Sound familiar?
After years of running from place to place and constantly having to ‘stress manage,’ I found that the only sure fire way to find peace, acceptance, or power is to transcend stress all together through stillness. There is not a single thing someone can sell you that will make your hectic life carry a resounding feeling of peace. While this may sound too simple, finding stillness is hard. It isn’t something we can buy at the drug store counter that will magically make all our anxiety or stress go away 30 min after taking the tablet. It is something we have to actively work on, day in and day out. It is something we have to actively commit ourselves to if we want to see the benefits.
To a type A person whose mind is always racing with creative ideas, business plans, or my next steps, the idea of stillness seemed absolutely impossible. Prior to the birth of KORE MOVEMENT, I’d spend endless days on Global Advertising Campaigns that encompassed video conferencing at all hours of the day with other countries, factories overseas, flights from coast to coast or simply maneuvering deadlines with 3 hour timezone difference. The teams I led could never get ahead because there was never enough hours in the day, grabbing quick unhealthy meals on the go, and hardly ever leaving time to exercise or focus on myself. There was always some product to launch or a major film being released by studios with zero flexibility. I had a never-ending to-do list that was at a minimum a mile long, and somehow yoga was supposed to solve it all?
Yoga was the doorway that led me to finding peace, adaptability, self-love, and stillness; and as a person who didn’t sit still for a second once in her life, that seemed like a mini miracle. Now, each day I step onto my mat with a heart of gratitude, a mind that is still, and I attain. I attain pace and positive energy and I channel that into accomplishing my goals. Through a maintained and committed daily practice I am able to accomplish more than I ever did in my previous career, and my energy expenditure is cut in half.
My mat is now my space to invite stress in, meet it head on, and transform it into a positive energy that motivates me to live my best life. What our mind believes becomes our reality; so I choose to manifest joy, abundance, and stillness. Each day we have the choice to set an intention that will bring us back to this place of calm where our fears, anxiety, and tension empower us instead of disable us.
Finding stillness and making it a priority in your daily routine will transform your life in ways you can’t begin to fathom. It will help your family life, your business reach new heights, and you might even begin to love and appreciate yourself in ways you never have before; and all you have to do is step onto your mat and let the magic of yoga do the rest.
